Such a tranquil area
Booked Bed in a Barn for my boyfriends birthday and it was perfect, so romantic sitting outside on the swing beside the fire with a bottle of wine. It is the perfect place to get away from it all and a gorgeous base to explore gorgeous sligo. We cant wait to return! Thanks so much!

Was lovely to return to the barn for a second stay. Despite it being cut short due to personal reasons, we still enjoyed our stay and Ineke couldn’t have been more accommodating given our circumstances. Both hosts were very welcoming and checked in with us during our stay also. Such a cosy spot! Will hopefully return again in the future 🙂 thank you!Padraig

What a gem to find amongst the Ox Mountains! We loved the back to basics nordic style. It was exactly what we were looking for. The kids loved this time away from all the distractions. More family time! Two very wonderful hosts who looked after us very well. The kids are very grateful for their gifts. We will be back!Feseha

It was a unique and brilliant family holiday we spent in Ineke’s & Bejamin’s Barn. Without mod cons, we enjoyed the simple things in life. The area is full of beauty – lots of lakes, walks, mountains and little villages. The Barn was the perfect base to explore all of these. Ineke and Benjamin were perfect host provided all the details in advance and checked on us few times. The highlight was the campfire – so simple and yet so warm. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our holidays and we will be back. Thank youLaragh

Beautiful accommodation in such a quiet location in a lovely part of county Sligo. Comfortable and quirky, we loved the outdoor open fire and the indoor range and it was a great escape to be out of phone coverage. Really nice hosts and such interesting work they are doing making and conserving books.Jack

Nice location, very rustic and basic feel to the whole “barn” . Outside area with fire pit and swing is beautiful could spend all day there , inside the “barn” has its pros and cons. The lighting within the house is nice , it keeps heat well, it looks very well however functionality is a slight issue overall. Stairs are very steep , in our room the sink that was meant for the bathroom was in the middle of the bedroom which was awkward when you going away with another couple but not necessarily a bad thing, the bathroom itself is very small if your Claustrophobic or have problems moving as the floor gets very wet from the shower/toilet room combo. The oven itself that’s in the photos didn’t work and the neither did toaster and when we asked we were meet with firm words that there wasn’t a oven and she just assumed the toaster worked as if we should of knew that already. So not very helpful sadly.
Had a very nice stay here, personally think we could of had a even nicer stay if we had got the same host we had read so many lovely things about in the reviews. Had very little contact with the host and when we did , we as a group didn’t feel overly welcome and when asked questions about the barn we just felt like a inconvenience and they just didn’t really seem bothered about how our stay was, being honest. Would recommend this place personally, but wouldn’t return. ThanksShow moreResponse from HermineJuly 2021We feel sorry that your stay was not that what you hoped and expected. It shows that guests have to familiarise themselves with the Bed in Barn as described and depicted in the listing to avoid disappointments.Show moreCarol

Unique property in a unique place hosted by the loveliest people! Kids loved it and all the teddies in quirky places! BBQ was great and a great hit with everyone. Sitting in the swing in the evening in front of the fire, reading and taking it easy was the highlight of our holiday. Thanks so much!Response from HermineJuly 2021Thanks! We had a lovely stay at the Bed in the Barn. We received a lovely warm welcome from Ineke on our arrival. She gave us the full tour and talked through a few local places to visit.
The bedroom was well designed and the bed was very comfortable, with nice fresh sheets and fluffy pillows.
The kitchen had a lovely big table to congregate. The oven rings are ideal for simple meals. Plenty of pans, plates, etc. available. The range also keeps the whole barn warm.
The outside has a swing-chair, perfect for relaxing, listening to the wind through the trees. There is a campfire and gas ring available for some al-fresco cooking, if the weather allows.
Great location if you want peace, or the coast, Ballina or Sligo city are all easily accessible by car. The Indian restaurant in Tobercurry is also recommended! Note – remember there is no phone signal in the barn so turn off your phone and relax!
Thank you Ineke and Benjamin!Grace

The perfect getaway. We loved this escape to nature, Hermine was such a lovely host she made us feel so welcome when awe arrived, talking us through the house and the stove etc. It was so nice to cook on the outside campfire and sit on the swing at night with the fire blazing. Would recommend this stay for anyone, no matter what the weather. We had non stop rain and it was just lovely to hear the raindrops on the roof of the barn! Very comfy bed too!! 10/10Sean

We absolutely adored our stay with Ineke and Benjamin in the Ox mountains. The forrest/garden views from the barn is spectacular and after being cooped up in Dublin during lockdown it was a feast for the eyes. Our hosts were very helpful and informative but were yet unintrusive. A lovely detox getaway!Atsuko

I am already counting down the days until I get to visit Ineke and Benjamin’s barn again! They are wonderful hosts and the barn is a wonderful place to take some time out and relax. Although it is described as “back to basics”, we were extremely comfortable and warm during our stay. The barn is surrounded by beautiful countyside and it’s a quick drive to the nearest town. I can’t recommend this place (and Ineke and Benjamin!) enough 🙂Oli

My son and I spent a night in the bed-in-a-barn and we had a wonderful and memorable time. It is in a lovely location and our hosts were super friendly and gave us a great welcome. We loved this quirky building and the space outside where you can explore, light a fire and relax in the swing. It’s very comfy inside and we cooked a nice dinner, relaxed and slept like logs. And there’s a goat! And the very interesting Ox Book Bindery. It is an experience we will remember for years to come!Claire

The bed in a barn is a very special place – words cannot describe the experiences you will have accurately.
It’s homely, comfy& cosey. Ineke & Benjamin are really great hosts who make you feel welcome from the get go and cannot do enough for you. The surrounding countryside adds to the mystique and special-ness of their little bolt-hole / hide away. In saying that.. you have county Sligo at your doorstep and nothing is more than an hour away. Definitely go to the Pudding Row Cafe ( in Easley) for a good meal or fantastic deserts with vegan & veggie options too. Thank you Ineke & Benjamin . We will be back for sure xxAndreea

This house is a rare find. The barn was nicely renovated and the outside patio and garden adds and extra value to the space. The owners, environmentally conscious, have put in place several ways of heating the space and the water, ranging from renewable solar panels to old fashioned wood stove. They also have a big garden where they grow their own food and even a green house for those cold days. The second bedroom has lots of toys for the kids and there are many interesting books to read to them. The place is very nicely decorated and it just has a very different vibe. If you want something unique, this is the place for you.Gaëlle

The barn is a fantastic place to recollect yourself, the sounds of the city are happily substituted for the song of the cuckoo and a chorus of leaves. All that aside our arrival was met with open arms and we were instantly made feel at home. Whether going for a walk in the beautiful surrounding areas, enjoying the sun in the zen garden or sitting by the fire while on the swing, the barn is super chill and for those looking to get away the perfect place.Philip

We really enjoyed our stay in the bed in a barn. It was a beautifully situated, peaceful, and thoughtfully designed space. Our hosts, Benjamin and Ineke, were friendly, easily contactable, and very interesting people. It was a privilege to see some of the work they do in their book bindery and on their private garden. Cooking over the fire and lying in the hammock on the warm evenings was a pleasure. Would be quick to come back and to recommend.Andrew

The 3 of us had an amazing weekend at the Bed in Barn, it was an excellent way to escape to the great outdoors. It was in a beautiful region and the way the Barn is set up, it felt like we were living in the landscape. Ineke and Benjamin were very hospitable and provided plenty of thoughtful touches. It was a pleasure to meet them, we were really interested to be shown around their studio where they operate their bindery and craft businesses. This was our second stay at Bed in Barn, and like before we absolutely loved it. This time we brought along my uncle from Germany and he was blown away by the location and the barn itself. Ineke and Benjamin are lovely and very thoughtful hosts. Knowing that there was a cold night ahead, they left out extra wood for us, and on arrival we found a beautiful homemade bread from Benjamin. I was also very happy that the beds hadn’t changed from last time we were there as they are so cozy and warm. The combination of beautiful walks and hikes nearby and the peace and quiet at the barn makes this place the perfect location to unwind and recharge. What a wonderful experience! The Bed in the Barn is in a beautiful part of Sligo with wonderful walks and scenery. The barn has everything you need and using the range brought back many great childhood memories. We also lit a campfire outside and were refreshed by the Westerly Atlantic breeze! Ineke and Benjamin are superb hosts and passed on some golden nuggets of knowledge 🙂
This is what Airbnb is all about so switch off and chill in a really unique setting.Kate

A unique and quiet little gem tucked away in the mountains. The barn itself is quirky and the perfect way to escape from it all. Ineke and Benjamin were lovely hosts and provided us with all the information we needed about the barn and the area itself. There are lovely lakes and walks nearby if you’re up for a stroll or you can just chill on the swing in the garden beside the campire. Will definitely be coming back!Anna

We loved our stay at the Bed in Barn. The location is absolutely unbelievable, the peace and quiet is complete, and the barn is beautiful, warm and comfy. Ineke and Benjamin were lovely and helpful and the welcome cake was delicious. The rooms are lovingly decorated and the bed was so comfortable and warm. We hope to return soon to explore the mountains some more and enjoy the beautiful wild garden space outside the barn. Thank you, Ineke and Benjamin.

The location of Ineke’s property is exactly as described, right in the heart of the Ox Mountains. This was, for me and my partner, exactly what we wanted. The location is perfect for hiking with lovely trails almost leading to the barn itself.
We took our trip there in mid November when there was both frost and snow on the mountains. The property is a converted barn so it can be quite cold as the main source of heat comes from a Stanley range (took a bit of getting used to but plenty of fuel was provided).
The kitchen is rustic, with the range dominating the main work station. There is a very good hot plate if cooking on the range is not for you however the only oven is in the range. The pantry is well stocked with plates and cutlery and anything you may need for cooking as well as small things like tea and coffee.
The rooms themselves are large and bright and the bed was very comfortable.
Ineke was a fantastic host, very friendly and approachable. In the barn itself there was folders full of all the things to do in the area. Small things like the fresh baked ginger cake that was waiting for us when we arrived really made the stay enjoyable.
I would to return to Bed in Barn during the summer months to fully enjoy the scenery that you are immersed from the moment you set foot on the property, helped great by the floor to ceiling windows in the kitchen.Show moreJamie

Beautifully secluded, cosy and unique property. Very welcoming and friendly hosts. All the information you will need for local walking and hiking trails is provided. We really loved our stay in Bed in Barn and will hopefully be back again before too long. Be sure to also check out the Ox Bindery!Rachael

Myself, my partner and 3 children had a fantastic couple of days staying at the bed in barn. It was a total break away from our busy lives and a chance to enjoy the outdoors and beautiful scenery right on the barn’s doorstep. Ineke had baked a delicious cake for us and had the stove lighting on arrival. We collected sticks and lit a fire outside the barn where we toasted marshmallows each evening. Such a fantastic experience for us all. We will definitely be back for a visit again soon!Jillian

I am just back from a weekend stay in The Bed in Barn and I want to go again! What a perfect location for a surprise Birthday weekend over the Halloween Bank Holiday. The 3 hour journey from Dublin was definitely worthwhile, the converted barn was everything I had hoped for and more. Idyllic, peaceful, cosy & quirky. Our hosts were lovely and very helpful. I would highly recommend the Bed in Barn experience.Pete & Jess

Great Air Bnb experience in very unique building; warm, welcoming hosts in secluded, peaceful spot of the Ox Mountains. Many great outdoor experiences nearby and a great base to stay. Wood fires, welcome cake and outdoor swing with all modern amenities make this a 10/10 stay. Thanks Ineke and Benjamin, we will be back!Phil

We received a gift of a nights stay in Bed in Barn for our sixtieth birthday. It was a beautiful experience totally isolated and nothing but the sound of the trees. We spent the evening swinging on the porch while our dog Squib played in the garden. The hosts were just the right degree of friendly, perfectly helpful but not at all interfering! Full marks. The perfect retreat for those choosing to escape whatever is bothering them in the contemporary world. Grace

We just loved this place , we got a lovely warm welcome from Ineke , When I read all the reviews I noticed everyone mentioned the cake on arrival – we weren’t disappointed … Its a lovely extra to receive.
The guided tour of the property just gave a brief idea of whats on offer , The longer I looked around the more I discovered – I loved the personal quirky touches that encorporate all aspects of your businesses and lifestyle. The indoor- outdoor BBQ was a great bonus
While this property is slightly off the beaten track for those who want a complete change in the pace of life – its perfect
Thank you so much for sharing this with us and we’d be very happy to return – if you’ll have us 🙂 Odette

We had a very lovely stay at the Bed in Barn! While I did the bookbinding course (which I would highly recommend, by the way), my family enjoyed their walks around the area. We loved everything about our stay! It was all very charming – the wood stove, the swing, the gorgeous views of the mountains and Ineke and Benjamin of course were very warm and friendly and welcomed us with freshly baked bread and cake, just when we thought it couldn’t possibly get any better. So yes, we’re definitely coming back!
Hartstikke bedankt Ineke en Benjamin, tot ziens!Clare

Ineke and Benjamin were wonderful and accommodating hosts. The barn and surroundings were absolutely magical. The bedrooms were very spacious and kitchen well equipped. Thanks a million for everything Ineke and Benjamin. We will never forget our weekend. It was a really nice suprise for us.
Our experience couldn´t be better. Ineke and Benjamin were super kind and we felt at home all time.
Be in Barn totally exceeded our expectations. It was a very special and magic place.
I would recommend this place to everyone without any hesitation. They take care of even the smallest details.
Everything was perfect. We enjoy a unique environment, a beautiful forest, a nice conversation by the bonfire and delicious cookies from Ineke.
This is the best accommodation in Ireland for sure.
Keep an eye on the shop that they have , it’s so beautiful. I have no words to describe it. Just incredible!

Ineke and Benjamin were great hosts, we provided them with our estimated time of arrival and the barn was warm awaiting us with the fire lit. The location is very secluded and rural but this was made clear from the start. It was a perfect get away as we had no phone reception and the wifi was not that strong. We got to completely unwind and relax. Unfortunately when we stayed the weather was not permitting for the outdoor seating area which overlooked the picturesque garden. The accommodation itself was beautiful and everything we needed was there. The next day Ineke and Benjamin have us a tour of their bindery workshop which was very interesting. I could not fault this trip and would 100% recommend bed in the barn. Laura

I would highly recommend Bed in Barn as a place to stay for people wanting to get away from everything and catch up with friends/family. Ineke and Benjamin were lovely and the place was just as described and more. We went for an 18k walk around the mountain and lakes and felt like we were the only people there. You definitely need a car to get around if you need to go to the shops or anything but it was really a fabulous stay and I’ve already started sharing the link with friends and family to stay there too.Rosaleen

Tranquil, peaceful and idyllic within the Ox Mountain forest. Both my girlfriend and I enjoyed active days white water rafting in the nearby Eske River with Awesome Adventures followed by unwinding glasses of wine by the wood burning stove in the evening. We retired upstairs drifting to sleep listening to the gentle patter of rainfall on the tin roof while being watched over by a blanket of stars. We felt like we were off the grid, with little phone coverage, but that is exactly what we wanted. Ineke was extremely helpful and left us to enjoy our weekend with no intrusion. I would strongly recommend Bed & Barn 🙂 Charlot

Ineke and Benjamin were really nice people, they provided us with everything we needed to know, and were very approachable. The barn itself was exactly like described, and had all the equipment we needed in order to cook or wash up. I love the fact that the place and water was heated up by a stove, it was very eco-friendly and self sufficient. The environment itself was so peaceful and green, you could literally step out into a wild garden full of trees and fields. It was one of the best places we’ve stayed and we are definitely coming back in the near future.Aoife

The bed in a barn is the most amazing and special place! Ineke and Benjamin were amazing hosts and getting to spend a night in their barn was a gift! From the decor, to the donkey in the field you can really feel the heart and soul in this place and sprinkled with Ineke and Benjamin’s artistic touches, it’s the most inspiring and motivating environment! Strolling through the Ox mountains on our departure was breathtaking. I would recommend this place to anyone, I can’t wait to return!Dawid

I’ve spent 5 awesome days in the barn. The place is quiet from city sounds but full of nature songs. It was raining for most of my trip so I didn’t have chance to explore beautiful mountains which are just step away from a garden. Ineke and Benjamin are very friendly and inspiring people. Hoping to get back there again. Thank youKatarzyna

Our stay in Ineke and Benjamin’s ‘Bed in Barn’ was really wonderful. We were given a very warm welcome, and shown how to work the wood-burning range which acts as the heating for the radiators and to heat the water for washing and showering. The range was very easy to get the hang of and we also used this to cook our meals upon.
The house was exactly as it has been described and although were stayed there in late Dec/early January it was very cosy.
The Ox Mountain area is really beautiful with plenty of opportunities for walking and hiking.
I can’t recommend the ‘Bed in Barn’ enough, there were so many nice extra touches around the place, it was easy to tell that Ineke and Benjamin have put a lot of time and effort into making this barn feel like a home.
The very tasty cake to great us was also a wonderful treat.
Thank you both.Niall

The most amazing experience. Words cannot describe how beautiful and cosy the barn was on a miserable, wet October weekend. Nothing nicer than exploring the beautiful surrounding areas and coming back to sample the beautiful cake handmade for us by Ineke and the stove already lighting for us. Fantastic and I can’t wait to go back. Niamh

We stayed at the lovely Bed in Barn for four nights. Before we even arrived Ineke was very accommodating helping us organise our trip, even though she and Benjamin would be working away for most of our stay. Upon arriving at the Barn, later than we had planned, Ineke and Benjamin gave a thorough explanation of how everything works, we felt very prepared for our stay! The range provided ample heat and hot water. We mainly took it easy during our stay, enjoying breakfast in the lovely garden, and took a lovely stroll to Lough Easkey. It was a perfect place to relax, and we loved the home-baked ginger cake. Thank you Ineke and Benjamin for a wonderful stay!Pearl

The barn was lovely and warm, like the hosts. Very thoughtfully decorated with craftsmanship and care. The place is calming, set in stunning scenery. Excellent directions. Comfortable bed and living room. Loads in the cosy kitchen. Couldn’t ask for more. Kind Ineke even made a welcome cake and gifted us with a beautiful tiny book from the bindery. Marvellous place, food for the soul. Looking forward to visiting again. Katarzyna

Ineke and Benjamin’s place was simply beautiful. We were both completely in awe as Ineke showed us around the barn on our arrival. The welcoming warmth, the smell of dry pine burning was as equally refreshing as it was relaxing. The freshly baked maderia cake and the tranquil lighting all filled us with excitement and delight. It was the most perfect place to unplug and we were so sorry to be leaving after just one night. I can’t wait to make a return visit to this fabulous cosy abode very soon.Sivan

Thank you for a serene weekend in the wilderness Ineke and Benjamin! We woke each morning to the sound of swallows chattering in the awnings and the lingering smell of woodsmoke. We spent a magical three days at the beautiful Bed in Barn with our kind, generous hosts Ineke and Benjamin. Everything about this B&B is extraordinary. The Barn itself is lovingly decorated with handmade furnishings, it is extremely well stocked, warm, cosy and has many unique touches, such as a wood burning stove, a covered outdoor area with swing, BBQ and campfire. The location itself amidst the Ox Mountains is gorgeous, so peaceful and surrounded by stunning scenery and great trails to walk. The locality including the neighbouring towns are also wonderful; Tubercurry is a very unique town. Our wonderful hosts went above and beyond in every way to make our stay unforgettable. We cannot recommend the Bed in Barn highly enough for a happy and peaceful escape.Martin

The only problem with our time at Bed in Barn was that it was too short! We loved every moment of it and found Ineke to be a most welcoming, helpful and gracious host. The barn is absolutely charming and the garden, magical. The countryside around the property is utterly unspoiled and very, very peaceful. We can’t wait to book another stay at this uniquely wonderful place.Rose

We were met by ineke and benjamin on arrival …what a welcome we received! Ineke had baked a lovely cake and had the stove lighting for us…very nice and cosy. The barn was full of character and quirkiness with lovely handcrafted detail. It is a very peaceful location for anyone looking for peace and quiet within nature. The mountains, lakes and places of historic interest are all nearby and Ineke is very knowledgeable about the area. The Ox Bindery is across the road.. Benjamin has a unique talent and showed us around his workshop.
We really enjoyed our stay and hope to return

Ineke and benji are offering an incredible experience with their bed in barn. The accommodation is even better than it looks in the photos – we really appreciated the lovely details and efforts made to maximise the barn’s cosy factor! Waking up back in Dublin this morning, I could almost still smell the wood burning stove. There is so much to appreciate in the surrounding area, hills, valleys, lakes….with the colours on the mountain constantly changing. The break was a real escape and the hosts couldn’t be more attentive, interesting and fun! Thank you so much. Response from HermineMay 2015Thank you for your kind words. One word- WOW. I have stayed in many air bnb’s and this one was by far our favourite. From the beginning, Ineke was a great host, providing easy directions and being easy to contact. Upon arrival Ineke showed us around the barn and she had also baked a cake for us! The barn itself is magical! It is warm, cosy and filled with character. It has everything you need for sleeping, cooking and relaxing.
Ineke also stocked the fridge with milk, eggs and bacon and fruit, this something we have never had at an air bnb before and was a lovely touch.
Ineke also showed us around the property (including a Robin’s nest!) and she brought us on a walk nearby up the mountains where we had a lovely chat and a chance to explore! It was wonderful.
The only problem was that we did not want to leave!
We will definitely be returning to this wonderful place. Thank you Ineke! 🙂 Show moreResponse from HermineApril 2015Thank you Roisin. Hard to overstate how lovely, charming, and relaxing our stay at the Bed in Barn was. A wonderfully isolated location with the ultimate tranquillity that few places like the west of Ireland can provide!
The barn itself is gorgeous, heated really well by a wood-fired stove that also provides cooking options and hot water. There is plenty of room in the bedroom and the living area.
The location is ideal if you’re looking to disconnect from the world, and the area is gorgeous – while also providing a really great base for exploring the west coast – the nearest village is about 10 miles away, but just a little bit further is some stunning natural landscape. Be warned, you won’t have mobile coverage, but for us that was just another bonus point!
Ineke and Benjamin were so welcoming, had the fire going for our arrival and provided perfect directions!

This place exceeded our expectations in so many ways I don’t know where to begin. It is a beautiful ‘back to basics’ accommodation but with all your home comforts included – plenty of plates, cutlery etc and a store cupboard full of dried goods. The range was surprisingly easy to get the hang of and the pressure from the shower was impressive to say the least! We found the property with no issue using (Hidden by Airbnb) maps and received a warm welcome and tour from our hosts. We had lots of recommendations for day trips but could have easily spent our days reading and chatting on the swing seat, admiring the gardens. Thank you again for an amazing stay – we will be back.Rosie

- July 2020
Fantastic space in a great location. It says ‘back to basics’ in the description but this is very much in a good way, ie no phone signal and heating the barn through the oven stove. Actually the barn feels very modern and we found it very easy to get the stove going and the amenities include everything you need.
The location in the Ox mountains is remote but easy to find: approx 1 hour from Sligo town. Easkey Beach and holiday town of Innishcrone are accessible (Seaweed baths in the latter recommended) as are the larger towns of Tobercurry (aka Carricklea from Normal People!) and Ballina for shopping.
Enjoy walking or cycling in the area and if you are lucky sitting in the garden when the sun is out!!Jakob

If you want to get away from it all, this is the place to go. This place is wonderfully quiet and peaceful. Ineke and Benjamin live in a cottage over the road and were very friendly and helpful but at the same time did not intrude at all. We took our two young children with us (6 and 3) and they loved it there. The second bedroom was large and had fun bedding, soft toys, books and quirky chalk boards and decorations made by Ineke and Benjamin. They loved toasting marshmallows over the campfire and exploring in the woods. The surrounding countryside is just beautiful.Marcus

A perfect little getaway! Benjamin and Ineke are truly top notch hosts, and their barn is so sweetly decorated and comfortable! Our group of 6 loved cooking together in the kitchen, sitting by the bonfire, picking fresh peppermint for tea, and sleeping on comfortable and non-creaky beds! The tranquill surroundings and sweet kitties and goat made for an extra special stay–I can’t recommend it enough!Colleen

Mystical and magical. The longer you stay, the more enchantment you will find. The Bed in Barn is comfortable, charming, spacious, and hospitable. It was amazing to have the experience of driving into the mountains and seeing yet another side of Ireland. A tucked away, self-sustaining plot of land with a hard-worked garden, book bindery business, kitties, a goat, and a couple of kind humans. We cooked a late meal and had a stellar time making a campfire and enjoying being disconnected from the world. A comfortable bed, warm shower, and land to ramble around. One night was far too short, and we recommend staying longer, but we feel lucky to have experienced the place and people. The woods behind Mass Rock just up the road are incredible to explore, and we had a blast at the Kesh Caves as we were leaving the region. Thank you so much Ineke and Benjamin!Ryan

This place was Awesome!! It was so clean and tidy and had some really amazing touches that brought a smile to both of our faces. Would have loved to stay longer then just a day because it looks like there is so much more to do beyond just what the cabin has to offer. Ineke and Ben were great hosts and greeted us even though we were running behind. Thank you for the great stay would love to do it again!!Leeanne

Delightful stay at the barn! Very relaxing getaway and a great base for exploring the local area, by foot or by car. We really enjoyed our campfire experience during the nights. The hosts were very pleasant and we would definitely return again for a second visitMartin

This place is wonderful!! The hospitality outstanding and the area superb for nature experiences. And the tour of the book binding workshop and the daily play with the goat just came as unexpected bonuses! Can absolutely recommend!Joanna

This place was a real find and we had such a lovely stay. It’s the perfect get-away-from-it all retreat, but with just the right amount of mod cons – a log-burning stove, simple kitchen, very comfy bed and a lovely outdoor garden and campfire space. Ineke and Benjamin were great hosts – around and available but never intrusive – and they had even baked us an apple cake for our arrival! We enjoyed exploring the surrounding countryside – the mountains and loughs nearby, and the Wild Atlantic Way just a short drive away…Kerry

We love Bed in Barn! Charmingly rustic, beautiful setting, close to so many wonderful spots, peaceful and relaxing. This was my second stay with Ineke and Benjamin and this time I brought my mom with me (she loved it too). Highly recommend this special spot!!Demi

My boyfriend and I booked to stay here from Belfast City. With it being so remote we really felt so relaxed and at one with nature. The surrounding area is beautiful. The views are breathtaking. So much to see. The barn was beautiful, very cosy. Definitely take note on bringing warm clothes because it can get pretty cold at night!! The fire pit and swing seat are a great touch. Highly recommend and can’t wait to return!! Thanks for having usNic
- November 2018
We’ve stayed at Bed in Barn many times, in all seasons, and always leave with plans to return as soon as our schedule allows. Ineke and Benjamin are great hosts, the very rural location is pretty well perfect for that away-from-it-all break (yet only 30 minutes from Knock Airport), and the accommodation is cosy and warm even on cold November nights.
And Bella the goat is a great little character!Barbora
- November 2018
This bed in barn was a gem during our roadtrip through Ireland and Northern Ireland.
We were warmly welcomed by Ineke and Benjamin, and then walked into beautifully equipped home with cracking fire inside.
This is the perfect place for you if you are seeking some quiet and relaxing time. The place has everything you need: fully equipped kitchen, two bedrooms, singing birds in the morning, shiny stars during the night…
I noticed a small details that complemented the whole place and made it truly unique.
Maybe just a friendly reminder to the other travelers: be sure to bring some warm clothes if you are staying during winter time, as it may get chilly outside during the nights!
Thank you again for this adventure.Susie

This was our 2nd time at the bed in the barn. We adore Ineke and Benjamin, the barn, and the Ox Mountains. The space is so cozy and unique and the barn is in a more untouched part of Ireland. We will not hesitate to book again for our next trip to Ireland.Kim

ineke & benjamin’s place is one of a kind – it is by far our favorite place we have stayed on our two month trip through scotland & ireland. if you are into old &/or hand made books like me – you will have an extra special treat to meet benjamin – a talented man. ineke & benjamin’s creativity is apparent in every nook & cranny of their land and home – a real gem. we were there a week & could have easily enjoyed being there longer. perfect for families or a romantic getaway. a real eco conscious lifestyle they lead – your water heated by woodburning stove – though they have electric should you run out! compost straight into ineke’s organic garden. some amazing walks right out your door. bring groceries cuz you won’t want to leave once you arrive. Paul

This place is a gem! Such a beautiful setting. My kids loved the cats and the baby goat. We all loved learning about book binding. The space was more than enough for our family of six, was clean and had everything we needed. The hosts were friendly and very kind. We cannot recommend this place highly enough. Our only regret is that we didn’t stay long enough. Alex

The hosts are very kind and unique individuals who warmly welcomed us to their home. We were able to tour their little bindery that they operate on site and see the current restoration projects that are being completed – this was a very unexpected addition to our trip. My wife and I also enjoyed walking along the quiet roads, however we were not quite prepared for all the bugs. All-in-all we had a enjoyable stay at the bed in a barn.Sarah

I can’t say enough good things about Bed in Barn. It’s a truly special experience to stay there and was certainly a highlight of our trip to Ireland. The area is so secluded and beautiful and I’m especially grateful we found the place because we would have probably missed the whole region otherwise. We loved exploring the coast nearby and found it better in many ways than some of the better known regions because it was so much less crowded and touristy. Oh, and Ineke and Benjamin are wonderful hosts. Helen

Bed in Barn is the perfect place to get away from it all…. all you can hear is the birds and the bell from the collar of the pet goat! Absolutely tranquil! We were only staying one night and didn’t get to explore the local area but wish we had arrived earlier to enjoy more of the evening on the swing seat, overlooking the mountains! An outstanding view! It does mention somewhere in the listing that there is no oven or microwave, so don’t buy anything that requires baking…. the oven part of the range is non functional so stick to pan fried/steamed food! A few key items like salt, pepper and oil are kindly provided but remember your own butter and milk! The range does a great job of keeping the place warm as long as you keep on top of it, but bring warm clothes as Ineke & Benjamin mention in the listing in case you aren’t as lucky as me and bring your own professional Fireman! We loved the rainwater shower and the back to basics feel of the place 🙂 Ineke and Benjamin are warm and friendly, interesting humans who have done a fabulous job at providing the quirkiest, most quiet and peaceful nights accommodation of our 10 nights in Ireland! My best advice would be stay longer than we did!Chavdar

Bed in Barn was one of the best airbnbs I have every stayed in. It is such a magical place with so much charm! Ineke and Benjamin were such gracious hosts. We arrived late on a very cold day and Ineke went out of her way to warm up the place before hand. We also absolutely adored their baby goat, Bella 🙂 A must stay if you are planning a trip to Ireland!Darren

Absolute gem hidden in mossy copse of woods. Simply the best experience we’ve had with Airbnb so far. The rustic touches were delightful, the host was knowledgeable and very thoughtful.
And they had a baby goat which stayed with us!
This is rustic back to basics simplicity at its best.Conor

We’re serial returnees to Ineke and Benjamin’s lovely barn, where we can be sure of a welcome that’s as warm as the fire in the stove. We’ve visited in autumn, winter, spring and summer over the past two years; Bed in Barn is enjoyable in all weathers and there’s plenty to see and do within easy driving distance.
Factor in the barn’s homely but stylish rustic charm, Benjamin and Ineke’s excellent hosting, the tranquil location and easy access to coast, mountains, moorland, loughs and Knock Airport, and it’s easy to understand why Bed in Barn is our go-to destination when we want a few nights away to unwind.
Thanks, Ineke and Benjamin. We’re sure to be back in 2018!Garret

Ineke and Benjamin were lovely to encounter on our trip through Ireland — a true highlight. They welcomed us warmly in the evening and even gave us nice tips for the rest of our adventure through the country. Nested in the Ox Mountains, they have really put together a unique experience transforming the rustic, Irish barn into a cozy retreat. Highly recommend!Sally

Ineke and Benjamin’s place is lovely. They are amazing hosts and their place is a one of a kind place. When Ineke tells you you have hot water to shower — make sure you take a shower 😁 would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to have a different experience while traveling.Response from HermineOctober 2017Thanks Cheyenne, it was a pleasure to host you both. Just to clarify for other guests, in the Bed in Barn you can always take a shower, be it provided by an electric one, or hot water generated by the solar panels and/or the range. The latest one is the best shower with plenty of hot water and power. Show moreWendy

Gorgeous place, very rustic, nice and clean. Our favorite place we stayed, well worth the drive! Stay there for a few days to take it all in! Ineke was very warm and welcoming. There were some delicious welcome cookies for us which was a really nice touch.Chelsea
- October 2017
This place is very unique and was a fun place for us to stay. Ineke is very hospitable and helped us with ideas for things to do in the area. The property is absolutely stunning and the wood burning stove kept the house nice and toasty throughout the night. The water was delicious tasting too.
We would have liked the option of having internet access as our trip was being planned on the go. It was also a bit tricky to get the shower to word out. Other than that, it was overall very, very cool!Apichai

Holy moly! What a find! Ineke and Benjamin have done an incredible job doing up the barn and making it a funky, cosy and fascinating place to stay.
Beds were extremely comfy, heating was great, lovely kitchen with big table and sweet outdoor spot to have a fire!
We also had a delicious cake left for us to enjoy when we arrived! Gutted we only had one night but will hopefully be back soon!
Lovely people, lovely place!Adam

Bed and Barn was by far our favorite place to stay on our whole trip of Ireland. We didn’t mind getting rained out of our trip to benbulbin because we knew we had the Barn to cozy up in. I would recommend to location to any of my friends as it’s just such a delightful experience to stay here. I hope we have an excuse to come here again in the future.Amy

Thanks again Ineke and Benjamin. We really loved staying in your home. We feel so relaxed, loved the campfire and sitting outside in the beautiful surroundings. Our only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer. Will definitely be back. Amy and ChrisAngela
- September 2017
The bed-in-barn was amazing! We were late arriving, but Ineke and Ben were super supportive and helpful (we got a flat tire on our way there). Ineke made great last minute suggestions on a late night place to eat – The ‘New Jewel in the Crown’ in Tuppercurry has the BEST Indian food and was open late! Our 9 and 6 year old were both begging for us to go there again for lunch the next day. We really wished we could have enjoyed the barn for longer so we are looking forward to heading back there someday! The Ox mountains were beautiful and absolutely worth a trip down the narrow roads (no worries, there was hardly any other travelers on the road!) Thank you to Ineke and Benjamin for showing us around the Ox Bindery — we really found the store and the work fascinating and picked up a couple really unique gifts! Much love and appreciation from our entire family! See you soon!Leon
- September 2017
Just an amazing place to spend time, we got in super late and our hosts where kind enough to light the stove so we where not to cold on arrival. The barn is so well down and very eco friendly. The quite and how dark the night sky is was by far the highlight of our stay but no worries if you not a late night person, the barn is is one of the most beautiful parts of Ireland Ive ever seen. Thanks and I cant wait to get back that way.Mathew

The photos and description will not ever bring to life the delight that this genuine gem is. To top off it all Ineke and Benjamin are the kindest sweetest hosts. If you are contemplating booking, absolutely do so…just don’t beat us to booking our next trip 🙂Jennifer77

The barn was beautiful. Ineke and Benjamin gracious hosts. We really enjoyed being so deep in the Irish mountains. A swing by the fire, eating the delicious cake Ineke made was so relaxing. We only wish we had more than one night.
Until our next trip over, we will think of the barn while writing in our handmade notebooks from the Ox Bindery. Stephanie

Ineke and her husband are wonderful, and the bed in barn is splendid. It is well-furnished, cozy, quiet, and comfortable. We loved the wood stove heating the barn, the “porch” swing, and the absolute and total quietness of this place. I plan on returning someday!Tina

Magical place! Kids loved the adventure of making fire, being out in the woods collecting things, walking, observing Ineke and Benjamin working in their bindery. They are lovely hosts and bed in barn worth visiting just to meet them. Carol

Had a great time at the Barn, Ineke and her husband are very friendly and welcoming and made sure we knew where everything was and how it worked. The barn has everything you need and outside is a BBQ and swing seat and beautiful garden to explore. If you want to get away from it all this is the place. Great fun and lovely hosts.Lynn

This is a very cozy and creative, if somewhat rustic, space. A perfect get away in a beautiful setting – treed and pastoral. A good location for checking out North Mayo as well as parts of Sligo – very good value for money and worthwhile to check out Ineke and husband’s book binding business next door as well. Patrick
- June 2017
We had a 3 day stay at the bed in a barn. We loved getting of the radar and keeping ourselves entertained without falling back on the old reliable iPhone/TV.
We had the camp fire going at night which was a great way to relax and cook on!!. We will certinaly be back.

We were able to rest in the quiet solitude of “bed in a barn”. Very comfortable and a special experience. Justin
- June 2017
This Barn is beautiful, if you are looking to get away from technology and just have a nice time with your loved ones this is the place to go.
Unfortunately we only stayed for one night, but we wished we could’ve stayed a little longer. There’s so much we could’ve done while staying here.
The place was very comfortable and it pretty much felt like we were camping. Our host was amazing, she even had little treats for us upon our arrival.
The barn was simply beautiful, you have everything you need. The Wifi wasn’t the best, but then again this is not the place for you if being connected it’s important to you. We actually didn’t mind not having wifi.
The beds where very comfortable and the entire property was breathtaking. We hope sometime in the near future we can visit again and be able to stay a little longer.
Thank you!Jamie

Our stay at the bed in barn could not have been better.
Ineke and Benjamin have created a beautiful home and barn, and it’s wonderful to get the chance to experience them.
The barn itself is magical. Comfortable bedrooms, a beautiful kitchen area and a swing and fire pit for the evenings!
We only stayed for one evening, but could have stayed for a week!
Ineke was very responsive to all my messages and communication could not have gone better.
Would love to come back!

- June 2017
We spent a wonderful week at this enchanted place! It is a true retreat from the fast paced world. The location is stunning. The barn is decorated in a cute and quirky way. We slept better here than we have in a long time. Part of that was that the beds were really comfortable and part of it was the quiet or the gentle sound of a light rain. We were uncertain about the wood stove, but we ended up loving it! Be sure to check out the book bindery. Ineke and Benjamin are perfect hosts. Definitely stay here here if you are in in the Sligo area.Alicia
- June 2017
Beautiful barn surrounded by lovely scenery. Great communication with the hosts, we had a super yummy cake made by Ineke waiting for us on arrival. We spent the two days trekking and using the campfire for bbqs. Totally recommended for people looking for a place a bit different, in touch with nature.Rachel
- May 2017
This was my second time staying at the Bed in Barn and I will most certainly return. It was the perfect escape from our busy life and to reconnect. We took advantage of the limited phone reception & wifi and completed switched off by reading books, listening to music, playing chess and making food. We got back in touch with nature and gave our mind, body and soul some much needed rest & relaxation.Stu

Not even our stay at Ashford Castle compared to this place! So much character, great location, wonderful owners… We couldn’t have asked for a better stay. Make sure to stop by the bindery while you’re there! You won’t regret it.Joris

The uniqueness of the barn, comfy bed, the rain shower, a gentle padder of rain on the roof lulling me off to sleep. The creativity how they decorated is incredibly sweet. The hosts are nice to chat with and allow you space. Don’t make the same mistake as us we only booked one night and we regretted it. Chris

What a gem! The place is beautiful and rustic. Don’t stay if you don’t want to get away from it all. Not much wifi so keep that in mind. The scenery is lovely. Ineke and Benjamin also run a bindery and are very nice to chat with. The closest towns are about 20 min away.Jennifer

Spent 3 nights at bed in Barn and what a lovely experience it was!
Set in the heart of the mountains, this unique conversion is perfect to get away from daily life and the hustle and bustle.
Beautiful location, fantastic hosts there if you need anything but with the right amount of privacy and seclusion!
10/10 would come back again.
Already considering a trip back in the summer to make the most of the bench swing outside and the walks in the surrounding areas! Thanks Ineke and Benjamin! David

Beautiful space for a quiet escape – away from the bustle, but still close enough to easily go for a just a couple of days. Inside, it was really nice – warm cosy, well appointed. Ineke and Benjamin were great hosts and there was a delicious cake waiting for us when we arrived. I’d definitely stay again!Edward

Thanks so much for having us stay in your barn! We had a great time!Laura
- December 2016
Bed in the barn was a perfect break in between our week trip doing the Wild Atlantic Way, probably our favourite stay! It was not too far off our route and well worth the trip. We were worried about having trouble finding it in the dark but Ineke was available by text and was really helpful with very good directions.
We visited in December but once the fire was going we had no complaints. The barn is well equipped and yet still has a lovely traditional countryside vibe. The surrounding area is also beautiful and well worth exploring. Finally, Ineke and Benjamin were very friendly, welcoming and helpful and have clearly put a lot of love and effort into making the barn the special place that it is!
If you’re looking for a true relaxing Irish countryside experience then this is it and even if not, i’d still recommend it!
Thanks again Ineke and Benjamin, Laura, Marthe and RosemaryNic

This four-night stay was our fourth in 13 months, which probably gives a fair idea of how much we love Bed in Barn and hosts Ineke and Benjamin.
What’s not to like? It’s private, scenic, very rural, tranquil, cosy, warm even in December (thanks for chopping all that wood, Benjamin!), well equipped and the big bed is very comfortable – so much so that we always find ourselves sleeping longer than usual!
Ineke and Benjamin are the perfect hosts – attentive but discreet, informative and intelligent, helpful, warm and friendly.
There’s just one thing we hate about staying in this perfect get-away-from-it-all retreat, and that’s leaving for the airport… And as soon as we get back to Britain, we’re looking forward to going back to the Ox Mountains again. Soon.Katie
- November 2016
This was my favorite Air BnB stay ever. Ineke and Benjamin are pure souls and will help you with whatever you may need. The barn is amazing, and such a unique experience to add to my Ireland trip. I cannot say enough lovely things about the people… some of the most lovely folks I think I have ever met. (And Ineke is FUNNY!!) I wish them all the luck in this world. Kaeleigh
- October 2016
We loved our stay at the Bed in Barn. It is a unique, cozy property in a beautiful location with a lot to see and do (especially for nature lovers). We found the place easily with Ineke’s directions, and she was very understanding when we had to change our sleeping arrangments and then arrived later than planned. She provided us with maps and suggested scenic routes, and we enjoyed learning about the Ox Bindery and the amazing work that she and Benjamin do there.
I definitely recommend a stay at this location! Thanks, Ineke and Benjamin! John
- October 2016
Ineke and Benjamin were such gracious hosts. I had booked two nights but due to inclement weather missed my flight and could only stay for one. When my girlfriend and I finally arrived, Ineke had baked both a loaf of bread and a homemade cake for us as consolation for our delay!
The accommodations are so cozy and romantic: when we walked in the kitchen smelled beautifully of their wood burning stove and fresh bread. If you are looking for an idyllic environment to stay in and you don’t mind a rustic country atmosphere, I would recommend this to anyone. In fact if I do return to Ireland the Bed and Barn will be on top of my list to visit again! Charles

I took a road trip around Ireland and this was my favorite experience. I literally had my eyebrows raised and my mouth open when I saw the place. Ineke and Benjamin could not have been more welcoming. Make sure to check out the bindery.Till

Bed in Barn is a unique experience…
The renovated barn is lying in a beautiful surrounding in the ox-mountains. ok, one could say in the middel of nowhere, but this is what made the stay so extraordinary and unforgettable…
The barn is rebuilt with love, not only the outdoor-swing, the old oven, the outside fireplace or the delicious welcome-cake made it so comfortable…
Ineke and benjamin were great hosts, tow people that realized their dream and let others take part of it. Even two days were a great pleasure.
The look inside the bindery was very impressionating!
Keep on going with this way!
100% recommendation!

Our third visit to Bed in Barn in less than a year, and the welcome was as warm as ever. The fact that we’re “frequent Bed-in-Barners” says it all – this place is magical: cosy, comfortable, tranquil, private, at one with nature, very well equipped and extremely good value. We usually stay for three nights but next time we’re thinking of staying longer and maybe joining one of Benjamin’s bookbinding workshops.David

Ineke and Benjamin were fantastic hosts that shared their uniquely remodelled barn in an idyllic setting. We enjoyed the space and the creative touches of Benjamin’s handy work.Katja

Ineke and Benjamin have a lovely barn which makes every stay unique! We enjoyed the cosy kitchen, the hot shower and the cormfortable bed. Both are great hosts with a lot of stories to tell. We even got some insights in book bindery. Michael

Great experience!
Reminded us of being home a bit, going out and getting fire wood, making fires etc good change of pace from the cottages we have been staying in.
You can go for a walk and explore the forest behind the barn.
Easy communication, nice people.
Cheers

This place was magical!!! Ineke was an excellent host and had the stove burning and heating up the lovely renovated barn for us by the time we arrived. The darling converted space and its quiet rustic surroundings were a perfect treat after the slight hustle and bustle of Galway city, we only wish we could have stayed longer! It’s definitely a remote cozy getaway in the best possible way. Also being shown around the Ox Bindery was a treat and we got a few souvenirs to bring home and share memories! Highly recommend. James

This was our first AirBnB experience, and this was an international booking to boot.
Our expectations were exceeded! Ineke was super nice, helpful, and was a great communicator. The location and surroundings are beautiful! We are a family of 5 with school age children, and they absolutely loved the barn. (Ineke provides various books, toys, and games that were great for the kids). There’s a nearby town (Tubbercurry, 15 minutes away) where you can get a good bite to eat. The children are still raving about our stay at the barn.
Ineke was a great resource and offered advice and guidance on local hikes, which was very helpful. Thank you Ineke!
Our only complaint is that we should have booked for another night!Ross & Maïté

The cottage is lovely and situated in a beautiful surroundings. The kitchen is fully equipped and there is lots of space. Ineke and Benjamin were lovely hosts. They made us feel right at home. They set the fire burning for us and left us some dutch “stroopwafels”. Unfortunately we could only stay one night. Lucy

We had a great 3 nights in the most idyllic setting. Ineke was the perfect host – she greeted us when we arrived and made sure we had everything we needed, but left us to enjoy the beautiful setting and the peace. Everything has been thought of in the bed in barn – it’s cosy and charming and a great base for exploring the loughs and coast of Sligo. Katherine

Amazing experience! Barn, outdoor space and garden is a lovely culmination of Ineke and Benjis hard work. We had so much fun hanging outdoors and it was a much needed break from towns and driving on our Ireland adventure. Got to tour the book bindery too and look forward to booking again for a course 🙂Lorenzo

Ineke was really warm and welcoming. We arrived with a plate of biscuit waiting for us. The place was really lovely, you can see the effort and details Benjamin and Ineke took to the place. My family love the outdoor area and traditional Irish stove top ( it was a really unique experience for urban people like us). we even met a Shepard along our way into Ineke place, and he gave us a turf he found! 🙂 Kris

Bed in the Barn was an amazing experience. It was so great to get back to basics and enjoy life in the mountains as a family (with a dog).
The local history of Mass Rock was fascinating. Complete calm and peace. We had a great day trip up to the Blacksod and Cross Beach on the Wild Atlantic Highway.
The barn itself is beautiful with many hand crafted touches. One of our greatest memories will be of reading Harry Potter by candle light to our 6 yr old. Phenomenal value for money. We would recommend to anybody. Emilie

We came for the bookbinding workshop at the same location and very much enjoyed the Bed in Barn (and the workshop). It was cozy, relaxing, the area is stunning and we enjoyed chatting with our host. Nothing better to end the day by a fire outside and have a comfortable bed waiting for you.Chris

Wonderful remote location that was a nice break in the middle of our first tour of Ireland. We only stayed one night on the transition from the east to the west coast, but it was a welcome respite from staying in city centers. The bed and barn is lovely and has views and sites that we’ll always remember as part of our trip. John

Ineke and Benjamin were the best of hosts. They made us feel very welcome. The Bed in the Barn is exactly as advertised – cozy, clean, and rustic. Karen

This family of four had a fine time in and around the bed in barn. The description was accurate, so there were no surprises except that it was more charming than we’d expected. We loved sitting around the hand made kitchen table reading, eating, and making plans for our stay. Simply walking along the road was a satisfying outing, and Benjamin was an accommodating and cheerful host. The book bindery was a truly unique experience.Maki

The Bed in the Barn was all we had hoped for and more! Lovely, cosy kitchen and beautiful upstairs. Excellent selection of books!

Will definitely be aiming to come back!

Ineke and Benjamin were lovely hosts, waiting up until we arrived late which was unexpected but very nice of them.
We were made to feel welcome and that we could relax and enjoy the space around us.
The property is bigger than I thought but not too big so that it still feels cosy. The property was clean and warm when we arrived. Kitchen was well stocked with essentials like tea and coffee along with some cereals for breakfast.
Very peaceful retreat away from the hustle and bustle of routine life. we hope to return in the future.
Thanks Ineke and Benjamin for sharing your converted hay barn with us.Roe (& He’s Ken)

This is our all time favourite AirBnB! Wow! We loved it. And meeting another Superhost was like meeting a member of the family. Ineke was the perfect hostess (in fact I can’t see her ever not being a Superhost!) We were grateful for all the thoughtful additions, even with home bakes on arrival. We can’t recommend this barn more highly. Nicole

An amazing space with amazing hosts. We wish we could have stayed another day just to enjoy the quiet surroundings and relax a bit more. It was a perfect half way overnight on our trip to regroup and get away from the busy schedule. Oddly enough the lack of wifi was what we needed to just take it all in and enjoy. It was also a great experience to see and learn about a Ineke and Benjamin’s very interesting bindery in the mountains. Camilla & Dmitrij

Ineke was an amazing host and is an amazing person – this was far and away the best accommodation and most memorable host on our Ireland vacation. Everyone in our group are engineers and scientists, and she gave us a tour of the book bindery and was very engaging in answering our geeky questions about the bindery and the surrounding area. She was able to give great suggestions on what to see and do around the Bed in Barn and allowed us to borrow her geological map of Ireland and a beautiful bow and arrows. In the morning, she gave us some eggs to complement our breakfast. Her hospitality was unparalleled.
The barn is incredibly well-equipped and designed – a perfect stop-over for us between Belfast and Galway. It’s located in a beautiful, rural part of Sligo County with plenty of hiking trails and other natural attractions to go to. Great for a getaway from the city!
We’d definitely come back, and this was one of the only places on our vacation we wished we had stayed longer at.James

Top draw AirBnB.
I booked very last minute, and hadn’t studied the details much before we arrived. Ineke gave us a fantastic welcome and tour around. We were met with well presented grapes and waffles on the table and beautiful aroma from the wood fired range. We knew as soon as we walked in the property would just what we wanted. For me it is exactly what Air BnB is about. Unique location, original design, warm homely feel but also providing the quality, cleanliness and comfort of a high end hotel. I asked if we could extend our stay on arrival. No surprise it was booked up! We completed the Wild Atlantic Way and of all the places we stayed, this was the most special.
I can’t tell you everything we liked about this property, just too many things! In summary though, I loved the “off the grid” feeling and unique design of the barn, centred around the wood fired range. Had the weather been more clement, the garden would have been perfect. The bed was comfy and at night you could hear silence (Something very few of us experience these days!). The warm welcome and helpfulness of Ineke made it more special.
Thanks agin Ineke and Benjamin.
We hope to see you again soon. Brian

Ineke and Benjamin could not have been better hosts. Simply awesome people. Loved the stay and I am a better person after had stayed at the Bed in Barn. Jan

This was my first Air BnB experience and I couldn’t have wished for more. Ineke and Benjamin have created a beautiful rural retreat in a perfect location. The welcome was lovely, the burner already lit, a fresh home-made cake and flowers on the table and plenty of local information to help me find my way around.
The barn itself is well equipped – the stove is easy to light and warms the place very quickly, but there’s also a back up electric heater and hob if you don’t fancy lighting the burner when you get back at the end of the day.
The shower is great – powerful and hot and the bed was incredibly comfy.
Surrounded by nature, in a peaceful location, glorious sunsets and a blanket of bright stars – I really couldn’t have asked for anything else.
Thank you Ineke and Benjamin – it was lovely to meet you and I hope to be back! xManuella

We had a very nice stay in Bed in Barn. Ineke is lovely and welcoming and the listing is very cosy and quiet. The area is truly beautiful and we enjoyed some walks around the listing.
We also really appreciated the tasteful homemade jams and the bread for breakfast that Ineke left for us. Basically, it was a really great experience. Thanks again Ineke and Benjamin ! 🙂 Julia

Guys, if you’re coming to Ireland you MUST stay here. It was the cutest/best accommodation we could have hoped for. The highlight of our trip. It’s up in the Ox Mountains and it gives you the opportunity to relax and enjoy Ireland at it’s finest! It’s rustic, beautiful and we loved it. Thankyou Ineke and Benjamin for an amazing stay. Must do in Ireland!Louis
- April 2016
Ineke and Benjamin have created a playground of beautiful design touches and we had a fantastic night in the woods.
We were welcomed with strawberries and stroopwafel, and Ineke showed us around the house and explained how everything worked. We really like that there were options for DIY heating and cooking (making a fire in the range was great fun) as well as backups if you’re feeling lazy (an electric shower and space heater).
The place is decorated beautifully and we enjoyed the playful use of lighting that makes the Barn feel charming and fun. Pur hosts were delightful to chat to and gave us a tour of the amazing bookbinding workshop (ask about courses!).
Overall we’d heartily recommend the Bed in Barn for a secluded, romantic stay. Thanks guys!Nic

Our second stay at Bed in Barn was just as magical as our first, the welcome from Ineke and Benjamin just as warm, the accommodation just as cosy on cool spring nights. The location is so quiet and the wilderness setting feels so remote, yet Ballina and Tobercurry are a short drive away – half an hour or less – and it’s very convenient for Knock Airport. The coast isn’t too far off either, with good surf beaches at Easkey and Aughris.
Bed in Barn ticks so many of our boxes: green, sustainable, small-is-beautiful, lovely place, lovely people. If like us you can survive without TV, mobile phone signal or internet, then there’s no hardship choosing this idyllic and well-appointed hideaway for a few days’ rest, relaxation, walking, cycling and getting close to nature. It’s also extremely good value, whether you’re staying as a couple or with friends.
Thanks, Ineke and Benjamin. We’re planning our next trip already!Response from HermineApril 2016Thank you Nic for your kind words and thorough review. Just a note re. WIFI and mobile reception. Wifi is available at the Bed in Barn. We have a satelite dish and a limited data allowance (more info in the listing). Regarding the mobile phone signal: depending on your provider you might have mobile reception (Meteor does have coverage) or you can walk up the small road/hill for approx. 200 m and you will have a signal. But as you said this is a idyllic hideaway, and therefore an ideal place to unwind from the internet. Looking forward to meeting you again!Show moreDora

Ineke was warm and friendly. She explained everything when we arrived but provided us with peace and intimacy. When we were leaving she showed us her book bindery and shared with us her interesting stories. She is a inspirational person. The house was amazing, best place I ever stayed in. Beautifully decorated, rustic, with its own back garden and swing. The mountains have a special feel about them.Rob

I am not going to lie, but Bed in Barn surpassed all of my expectations! Ineke and Benjamin were so welcoming as we arrived late on a stormy evening….they had the stove going and a cake for us! The barn was spacious but also so cosy and warm! The kitchen had an extensive range of utensils where big meals could be cooked with ease! The shower was AMAZING (i recommend to go-even if it is just for a shower ;P) . The attention to detail in the furnishing and design in the barn made the stay so enjoyable! I can not wait to get back to Bed in Barn! Thank You!Pamela

Wow, what a magical experience even if only for just one night. My husband and I came over to Ireland for a quick getaway, and the bed in a barn was the perfect rustic respite we needed. Ineke and Benjamin greeted us as we arrived (yes, it is tricky to find, but that is its charm). They had stoked the wood-fire stove so the place was already warmed up. We had so much fun keeping the fire going to cook (we brought our own groceries from town) and warm the air and water of the place. Ineke had baked us a nice welcome cake which we also enjoyed for dessert (while tasting Irish Whiskey!) I just loved all the unique wood-carved furniture that Benjamin had made, especially the piece holding the sink In the bedroom, beautiful. The place is huge, comfortable, unique and cozy, all at the same time. I hope to back again, maybe in a warmer season, but maybe again when it’s cold, because that was part of its charm. Benjamin and Ineke gave us a tour of their bindery before we left, which was really fun. They gave us tips on a driving tour once we left, which was perfect. Gracious hosts which I’d love to keep as friends! Yes, the place was exactly as described, only better. Annie

We adored the Bed in a Barn! What a peaceful, secluded and relaxing way to spend a weekend (or longer). We’ll definitely be back! Emilia

My partner and I stayed at the Bed in Barn for two nights. It is a really lovely and peaceful place to stay in. We spend the two days exploring the surrounding nature with limited phone/internet connection. We were welcomed by Ineke and Benjamin. Fire was already on and Ineke did a quick run through on how things work which was very much appreciated. A whole lemon butter cake was on the dining table too! Kitchen is fully equip and toilet equip with essentials. We recommend coming with a bag of essential grocery and coming here to unwind. We will certainly be back in the future. Thank you Ineke and Benjamin for sharing your lovely Barn!Livia

We had a great time in the barn! When we arrived after driving over small, deserted farm roads, Ineke and Benji were very welcoming, showed us how to light the fire and heat water for the shower. Ineke had even made a wonderful cake and I’m lucky to say I got the recipe from her. The Bed in Barn is a very cosy and beautiful place with all that you could wish for in an Airbnb. I’d highly recommend the place to anybody I know. It’s a great experience when you hear the rain fall down on the roof of the barn over the warm and cosy bed.
Ineke and Benji, thank you again!Jennifer

We found the remote Bed in Barn easily thanks to excellent directions and good communication prior to arrival. Ineke and Benjamin were there to greet us and show us how everything worked. They’re warm and friendly with a strong desire to share the beauty and serenity of their adopted country with their guests. They had left us cake, home made jam and butter, and a spray of wild flowers and ferns; a lovely thoughtful greeting.
The accommodation has been recently converted to a high standard; it’s modern yet rustic, double-glazed, warm and well insulated, with a low carbon footprint – wood from the forest fuels the cooking range, which produces plenty of warmth plus water for the central heating, shower and washing up. There’s very generous space for two, with a lovely bedroom and large bed; four guests would be a bit cosier in the downstairs kitchen/dining area but still with plenty of private space as the upstairs sitting room converts into a double bedroom. There’s also lots of space outside to chill out, with a wonderful swinging chair under the open bay of the barn, a fire pit/bbq, and beyond that a wilderness garden stretching into the forest.
The Ox Mountains area feels very remote and unspoilt, but it’s actually only about 35 minutes from Knock airport, half an hour to the coast, less time into Ballina (which has lots of shops) and about 45 minutes into Sligo city, which also features good shopping plus cultural treats like the Abbey and the outstanding 20th century Irish art (some brilliant Jack Yeats pictures) in the Niland Collection. When you’re in the barn, the only sounds apart from a very occasional car or tractor in the narrow lane are birdsong and the wind in the trees, plus the plaintive braying of Eeyore the donkey asking for a bit of attention…
Facilities are more than adequate: plenty of cooking pans, crockery and glasses; a decent fridge; microwave; two hot plates if you don’t want to cook on the range; back-up heating; electric shower, toaster and kettle (again if you don’t have the range going). There’s no TV and very patchy mobile phone and internet reception – but for us that was part of the charm. To compensate for lack of digital media, there is some excellent general literature about Ireland and the local area.
In summary, we found Bed in Barn to be a magical place: relaxing, calming, inspiring, a place to get away from the cut and thrust of modern life. Whether you’re a walker, a cyclist, a reader, a writer, a thinker, an artist, seven or seventy, we feel you’d probably like Bed in Barn and its charming, thoughtful and talented hosts.Show moreResponse from HermineNovember 2015Thank you so much for your comprehensive review. Was very pleasant experience staying in Bed Barn, hosts Ineke and Benjamin are very passionate about their place and made it absolutely amazing. Surrounded by forest in Ox mountains it is perfect getaway from busy life and enjoy your walks and campfire in the evening. Ox mountains have a lot to offer, but it is also pretty close to many Sligo sightseeings. Outdoor area is really great. Swings, campfire place overlooking at Ox mounts’s forest. Was really a great stop and will be looking to come back for sure.Kandice

Staying at Bed in Barn was amazing! Jen and I wished that we had booked more than one night. We got to the barn after dark, but with Ineke’s directions didn’t have any problems. It was warm and cozy – Ineke had started the wood burning stove to warm the house before we arrived.
Ineke and Benjamin were so welcoming and we had a wonderful chat before we left the next morning. If you get a chance to see their book binding work you should, it’s beautiful.
Thanks for the cake!Kerry

Staying at the bed in barn was an absolute pleasure!
Benjamin was very welcoming and helpful, and even went out of his way to burn me a DVD about Irish emigration after we talked about my family heritage. I loved looking around his book binding shop and hearing about how they restore and preserve old books and manuscripts. We unfortunately didn’t have the chance to meet Ineke, as she was out of town.
The bed is comfy, shower warm, setting charming, and the surrounding woodlands are mystical and gorgeous. If you have the chance to stay at this wonderful spot, I highly recommend you do! We hope to come back on another visit 🙂Greg

All we can say is “wow”! This place is truly an amazing find and was a great getaway from everything. The woodwork adds so much charm and the space that you have makes it feel like home. A few things to keep in mind: this is in a very remote location…drive is a bit treacherous in the dark. Wifi and cell service are almost non existent. The hot water is heated by a wood stove… There is an electric shower as a backup. Wood stove takes about 2hrs to heat the water so plan accordingly. Also the stove is the main heat source. This means keeping a fire going. Wood and peat is provided. But if you are not used to it, sleeping in a house heated by a stove can really dry out your throat. Water comes from collected rainwater…this means the cistern in the house periodically refills as you use water. It is noisy and can surprise you if you do not know what it is. We did not meet Ineke because she was out of town, but her husband Benjamin took great care of us.Response from HermineSeptember 2015The ‘stove’ or ‘range’ has been and in many cases still is, the workhorse in rural households in Ireland and Britain. Family life would revolve around the range as it provided warm house with hot water and cooked breakfasts and dinners. It is part of our ‘old world’ country experience. When you drive up the winding road you are entering a ‘disconnected’ countryside where internet is ‘off’ and range is ‘on’.
There is internet by means of a satellite dish, a listening ear to that parallel universe of the modern always ‘on’ connectivity. Guests can use our limited internet connection here to reassure friends that they have not disappeared in the Irish outback.
And the range? We can have it ‘on’ on the guests request. So when they return after a day of tough holidaying they’ll find a warm home, just like the farmer would when he returned from the fields…Show moreViolet

I would highly recommend Bed in a Barn. It is a beautiful and unique home in a wonderful, tranquil setting. The hosts have clearly put a lot of love and thought into making the place special. They are hugely welcoming and friendly people and will make you feel at home, but your space is still totally private and secluded so you can just chill out. The garden is amazing, with hand-made wooden sculptures – a very artistic feel. There is loads of great countryside to explore nearby, and it’s pretty close to the seaside too, so there’s plenty of options for things to do. Thanks Ineke and Benjamin for a lovely week.

I highly recommend bed in barn for all those who love the simplistic life and want to experience the amazing views of the mountains. Bed in barn was a very unique experience from all other bnbs we have stayed in. It definitely ranks in our top 3. We absolutely loved the rustic but relaxed atmosphere the barn and the location in the middle of the ox mountains provide. Ineke was a wealth of practical information and supremely helpful with whatever we needed for the barn. I really appreciated her different perspective of ireland. The barn itself is a step above glamping which was perfect for us since my husband loves living as close to simplistic as possible and i love all creature comforts. The construction of the barn was something both my husband and i really admired. Relaxing in the quiet morning air of the mountains while sipping tea on the swing was one of my favorite memories of the place. If the future allows, we will be back for a second visit.Karen

The Bed in Barn exceeded our expectations and provided a delightful, comfortable base for walking in the mountains and exploring County Sligo. Our hosts were lovely, generous and welcoming – they have hand crafted this cosy nest and sanctuary.
Maybe we shouldn’t tell too many people how great this place is – we’d have loved to stay longer and hope to return. Fergus

Fantastic place. So secluded and quiet, we really relaxed here. The barn is totally unique and really interesting. Beautifully finished, it was a pleasure to stay there. Stoking the range to heat the kitchen and the water is great fun and the chair swing outside is a lovely way to enjoy a beer.
Was very interesting to see the bindery and get a glimpse into life in rural Ireland.
Wish we stayed more nights and will definitely go back.David & Anke

We stayed just one night at Ineke and Benjamin’s barn and from the second we arrived we knew we would have loved to stay longer. It is such a magical place, comfortable and peaceful.
The barn was very clean, spacious and we had everything we needed.
Ineke and Benjamin are great hosts, communication was excellent all along the way. Thanks to Ineke’s directions it was easy to find the barn. Ineke and Benjamin welcomed us with delicious sweets, Ineke showed us around and gave us some advice what to do in the area. They were always available when we had any questions and we enjoyed our conversations.
We cannot recommend this place enough!

I loved my initial greeting to the Bed and Barn where I felt genuinely welcomed by Ineke and Benjamin who are lovely and caring hosts. The Bed and Barn was clearly created with lots of thought, care and love along with attention to detail -like all the cleverly placed lights:). I enjoyed so many moments like watching the three baby swallows up in the rafters in the garden area being endlessly fed.
I was lucky enough to catch two students binding their books at the Ox Bindery across the road where Ineke and Benji create all sorts of magical finds. If you love Sligo like I do and nature – you’ll really appreciate this one of kind tucked away Ox Mountain gem!Okka

What a wonderful place to stay. Beautiful and handsome. You are for your own in a very nice rebuilt barn. You have everything you need even a fireplace and a lovely place outside.
Ineke and Benjamin also showed us their work, wich was very interesting! Thank you very much we really enjoied it!

Where to start?… Just Amazing ! Wonderful place to live. We stay just a night but we regreted not to stay longer. It’s really a beautiful place : calm, cosy, enough for a couple (and a family too), well decorated, simple, nice, magnifique !
Everything is there in order to spend a great time !
Ineke was lovely and available ! She gave us guidance to enjoy the area (hiking, walking…)!
Thank you very much for your excellent welcoming.

The Barn is better than the pictures suggest! We had a lovely two nights tucked away in the Ox Mountains. Ineke and Benjamin are both lovely and welcoming and made us feel right at home straight away.
Cooking on the wood fire range was good fun and the kitchen is really well stocked with everything you need.
There are many walks and cycle routes in the area so it is well worth staying more than a night to get to explore the area.
We will definitely being finding a week to come back again soon!

We had an amazing time at Bed in Barn. The location is secluded but very accessible and easy to find. The accommodation itself is unique, comfortable and clean and tidy. We had a wonderful welcome from Ineke, who was a brilliant host throughout, giving us tips on where to eat (lovely curry from Tubbercurry!) and things to do in the surrounding area. The Bindery is also fascinating and an extra bonus.
We would love to return in the future.Marianne & Jim

In a word — perfect!
We loved our stay at Bed in Barn. The barn has been remodeled with just the right combination of rustic and “mod cons.” The downstairs kitchen is cozy with its wood burning stove and big farm table, and the upstairs rooms are light and airy with a very comfortable king-size bed, and many creative and thoughtful touches. There are good kitchen supplies (even two refrigerators!), and our hosts kindly left us the basics for a nice breakfast our first morning.
After two weeks of constant traveling through Ireland my husband and I were very happy to get further into the countryside and spend six days in this delightful retreat. Benjamin and Ineke gave us a very warm welcome, greeting us with tea and homemade cake, as well as detailed introductions to the various features of the barn. During our stay they also provided helpful tips on many interesting spots to see in the area that we would not have discovered on our own.
Bed in Barn is the ideal place to stay for anyone looking for some really peaceful relaxation. It’s possible to visit beaches or megalithic tombs from there–or just have a quiet swing in the yard or a walk down the grassy lane. Without a doubt it was our favorite stop of the entire trip, and we were sorry to leave!Show moreResponse from HermineJune 2015Thank you so much for your nice review. We loved your stay and are happy that you liked it despite the genuine Irish weather:) But I understand it was great to make photographs. A warm and sunny welcome back anytime!Show moreDeclan

We have just returned for a second stay at Ineke and Benjamin’s jewel in the Ox mountains, The Bed In A Barn. This was my wife’s first time here and she wanted to cancel the rest of our trip and just stay there as it was so peaceful. It is the ultimate place to unwind, decompress and detox from the hassle of city life. I really can’t recommend this place or it’s genuinely wonderful owners enough. Oh and there are bikes now to get around. Mind the sheep! Enjoy the stars and the birds. You won’t want to leave.Tom

Thank you ver much Ineke and Benjamin for a perfect stay in your bed in barn 🙂 you were lovely persons. Communicationand description were always fine. The barn had all that we needed and the view directly in the nature was quite and harmful.

Ineke and Benjamin’s place was absolutely lovely!
Ineke provided us with so much great history and souvenirs. We were blown away with the amount of attention and detail in everything.
We had the best sleeps of our lives and we were completely in love with the area.

We loved our stay at Bed in a barn. It was everything and more. Ineke and Benjamin were lovely hosts – and clearly love where they live and love to share it with others. The accommodation was such a unique experience and so peaceful and good for the soul. Thank you both so much. Rolf

The Bed in Barn is a magical place! We spent two days here and did not want to leave. Ineke and Benjamin are great hosts, they had the fire going on our arrival and had the pantry stocked. They were very warm and interesting people to chat to. The barn is in a beautiful location and a perfect place to go exploring in the mountains. It has everything we needed to make our stay really cosy and special. Ineke’s cake tastes great with a cup of tea on the swing watching all the birds!Jordan

I gave it 5 stars, the app isn’t working! When my girlfriend and I arrived at the bed in barn we where greeted by a lovely couple, Ineke and Benjamin. Ineke showed us around, giving us a few tips on how to make the most of our trip. The place is amazing! I’ve never been somewhere so tranquil and relaxing. The barn is gorgeously finished with all the creature comforts you need. Loved it! Response from HermineMarch 2015Jordan it was a pleasure to have you and your girlfriend here. Living in rural Ireland we are dependent on satellite internet which is at times intermittent, especially when it is stormy, rainy and cloudy:)Sydney

I stayed at the Bed in Barn with my parents during an impromptu trip to Ireland–we had a fabulous time. Ineke and her husband Benji were such warm, friendly, attentive hosts. Prior to our arrival, Ineke was communicative and responsive. During our stay (2 nights) she and her husband were available for whatever we needed. Benji took the time to show us around his workshop which was a real treat. Having never traveled to this part of Ireland, we were so impressed with the surrounding natural beauty of the Ox Mountains. Staying at the Bed in Barn was a bit rustic (with all the comforts one wants when traveling; hot shower, warm bed) but so much fun and certainly the most memorable accommodation I’ve utilized during my 3 separate trips to Ireland. We would and hopefully will returnResponse from HermineMarch 2015There are those pleasant guests that make hosting a delight. Sydney was one of them. Welcome back anytime.Mandy

Such a special place! My only regrets are that I couldn’t stay longer and that I didn’t have a chance to take a class in the bindery. The scenery is gorgeous and Ineke and Benjamin are gracious hosts.Response from HermineMarch 2015Mandy it was great having you as a guest. Next time we are happy to introduce you to the craft of bookbinding!Sarah

Ineke was the perfect host, her and Benji greeted us with warm smiles, homemade cake, a roaring fire and tonnes of practical info to make sure we had an enjoyable stay. The barn really is wonderful and you can just tell it’s been made with care, from the 10-tog bedding to the glorious shower and bedside candles. My only regret is not being able to stay longer there. Utter bliss.Response from HermineMarch 2015Thanks Sarah! We loved your stay and chats. Welcome back anytime, a nice postcard will be in the welcome package:)Derek & Stephanie

Picture this…you walk into a perfect cabin: hot tea already brewing and awaiting your arrival, on top of an old fashioned wood stove. The aroma of fresh bread filling the kitchen, floor to ceiling windows picturing a perfect landscape and porch swing, just begging you to relax…have a cup of tea…soak in this little piece of heaven. Our fridge was full of fresh eggs, cheese, meats and milk for a delicious Irish breakfast. Jellies and butter and a pantry full of snacks: Ineke and Benjamin assure you never want for anything. The bed is so warm and the down comforter provides a sleep that, mixed with the crisp mountain air, awakens you refreshed and ready for another day of….well….relaxation! Leaving was the hardest part of our stay at the Ox Mountain Bed in Barn, and the time we spent there and chatted with Ineke and Benjamin we will cherish forever. We cannot recommend this place enough, and the next time we venture from California, it will be the first place we book!Response from HermineMarch 2015Derek and Stephanie, we were delighted to host you and we loved the animated chats. We had a sense of loss when you left and the building was empty again….

This was the most enjoyable stay i have had anywhere in a very long time. I intended to stay only for one night. I am writing this in the barn on night 3. I slept like the dead, the bed was so comfortable and there is nothing like being woken by the sound of birds. It is beautiful in the ox mountains, Lough Easkey is very nearby and it was great conversing with the sheep on the road. Ineke and Benjamin could not have been more welcoming and friendly. They run a bookbinding business next door which is fascinating. A lovely couple who are GENUINELY nice people and have done such a great job with this place. I wish I lived here.
If you need to get away from it all, this is the place. I recommend sitting on the swing chair on the porch with a coffee and listening to the birds or checking out the stars (zero noise or light pollution).
If you are a surfer Easkey is a quick drive across the mountain btw.
I can’t wait to return with a pile of books.Response from HermineMarch 2015Declan, thank you so much for your visit and your kind words! It was an honour for us as immigrated hosts, to host an emigrated Irishman celebrating the thousand welcomes of Irish hospitality. Cead Mile Failte!Hannah
